The period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, debuted three weeks ago, but it's still a big deal, with news about the program and its actors and staff appearing on a regular basis. Heeramandi's intricate production design won accolades for Bhansali, but the play has drawn harsh criticism for what many see as the glorifying of non-consensual sex, the glamourization of women's anguish, and the aestheticization of their misery. The majority of the criticism directed on actress Sharmin Segal was due to her allegedly subpar performance, which many characterized as lifeless and uninteresting.
